Mia Brown-Seguin is a visual artist based in Virginia, focused on site-specific installations and contextual art. She is inspired by human relationships with the environment, working from observations of life cycles, identity, and memory. Brown-Seguin considers her intimate connection with place, as well as the socio-political context of the female body within the landscape. In her practice, she uses photography and traditional methods of craft, along with fiber and book-related media, including papermaking, weaving, and alternative photography processes. By incorporating natural materials and found objects, she challenges scientific documentation and redefines the archival preconceptions of the art object.

Brown-Seguin is currently in Longwood Univerity’s Working Artist program, concentrating in Papermaking. She is a member of the North American Hand Papermakers (NAHP) and The International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA). She has received scholarship awards to attend The Paper and Book Intensive, Wells College Book Arts Center Summer Institute, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and Penland School of Craft. In the previous years, she attended the Montemero Art Residency and the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Artist in Residence. Her work has been exhibited internationally in Italy, Spain, NY, MA, IL, and CO.
